Rahul Gandhi on Saturday took to micro-blogging website Twitter to blame the central government for the massive migration of labourers and workers from tier-1 cities. In his tweet, Gandhi said, “It is a very big crime to do this to citizens.”
Also attached in the tweet were two pictures of massive gatherings of migrant workers who have currently camped at various state borders outside UP in an attempt to return to their respective villages. Rahul also said, “Our brothers and sisters should at least get dignity in these times of crisis. The government should act fast to stop this from developing into a bigger situation.”
Pictures and videos of thousands of such migrant workers camping at the Delhi-UP border in Ghazipur have been doing rounds on the internet over the last few days. In an announcement on Saturday, the Uttar Pradesh government said that as many as 1,000 buses are being made available to migrant workers looking to return to their respective villages. In a tweet earlier on 28 March, the office of the Uttar Pradesh chief minister said that provisions are also being made to provide food and shelter to these migrant workers.
