Nawaz Sharif, daughter Maryam to walk out of jail sentence suspend

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz are set to be released from jail after the Islamabad High Court suspended the sentences handed to them in a corruption case.

On Wednesday a division bench comprising of the high court suspended the father-daughter’s sentence.

The court held that despite conducting a thorough investigation, the National Accountability Bureau, which sent Sharif and his daughter to jail, “couldn’t bring any evidence of Nawaz Sharif’s ownership of the Avenfield apartments”.

The court asked the prosecution if it wants the court to believe that he owned the property based on mere assumption, The Dawn said in a report.
